2011 Columbus Day Parade & Celebration

October 9, 2011

The Italian Heritage/Columbus Day Parade turned out to be a great day for all who attended. The weather couldn’t have been better. We had five Model A’s, Nell’s beautiful convertible T-Bird, John Bettencourt’s ‘32 Roadster, and Chris Thompson and Maria’s parade debut of their new acquired Morris Minor. Gary and Cheryl Barrango’s one year-old grandson Vincent rode in the rumble seat of the family’s 1930 Roadster with his parents Janelle and Bryan.

As the cars made their way through the parade route from Fisherman’s Wharf to North Beach we threw out candy to all of the children in the crowd! It was great watching the excitement on the faces of the kids as the candy was being thrown their way. It was also exciting to watch and hear the military planes doing air shows overhead! They are always thrilling to see.

At the end of the parade everyone was treated to a refreshing glass of wine presented by “Julius Caesar” from North Beach Restaurant before passing by the reviewing stands. After the parade a number of members enjoyed a good Italian meal at Caesars Restaurant while others continued to enjoy the festivities and carnival going on at Saints Peter and Paul Church and the Ferrari show in Washington Square.

This parade has become a yearly event. Those who participated all agreed that they will be back next year. Hope many more will join us next year. Thanks again for your participation.
