2012 Ironstone Concours d'Elegance

September 21-23, 2012

Continued from part one.

The Machados’ suite was packed with club members, friends, and car show buddies both Friday and Saturday nights. The room had to exceed legal capacity. Bill Baxter and his wife Cheryl came by for a visit. Bill was the president of the San Francisco Chapter when I joined in 1971. Bill had his 35 Coupe Pace Car in the Show.

On Saturday night we moved the party from the Machados’ suite to the Camps Restaurant at the Greenhorn Creek Golf Resort in Angels Camp. Gary, Cheryl and friends planned the dinner. They arranged for us to dine in the private library room. A private room reduces collateral damage. We almost always make more noise than any other group in the house.

Did you see all the Thunderbirds? There were more Birds than Hawaiian shirts at the show. I had car trouble and came onto the field late smoking and bucking into my designated spot. I was followed by a bunch of T-Bird owners. Their first words were pop the hood and give us a hammer. I did as instructed. Now I know the correct tool and exactly where to hit the Bird to make her behave. You learn a little something every tour.

Oh, by the way, there were some great looking Model A Fords in the show. However, none from the San Francisco Chapter. This year we chose not to bring the A’s. In their place we had a Chevelle, a Merk, a 54 Skylark, a T-Bird, a Jaguar XKE, and a Cobra. A great looking bunch of cars.

There was much more to the story but it would fill a book. Long story short, we had a great time and have reserved rooms for next year.
