2018 Ironstone Concours d'Elegance

September 21-22

This was one of our best years at Ironstone. Walter Caplan, Stuart Fong, Tom and Terry Machado, Don Barnes, and Charlie Kascal and Victoria Acosta received awards. Congratulations to all.

A Special Shout Out to Jill and Jerry Schwab for hosting a lunch for the Club on Friday afternoon at their home in Sonora. They have a beautiful home just outside town that overlooks the rolling hills of the Gold Country. Although everyone arrived in time for lunch, two of the cars were wounded and needed special attention before driving on to Murphys.

Walter's Jag had a master cylinder failure and Charlie blew a radiator. With a little TLC we limped on into Murphys. Walter and Charlie are now candidates for the coveted Bent Rod Award. The presentation will be at the November meeting.

Joan Peterson and Jill Schwab did a little exploration in preparation for another tour to the Gold Country next April. Our plan is to stay at the Blackhawk Casino near Sonora and visit a distiller that makes hard ciders and infused vodka. The highlight of the tour will be attending a fifties concert at the Fallon Theater in Colombia. Of course, there will be time to spend in the pool, do a little wine tasting, or playing a little bocce. We will discuss the date at our November meeting.

We enjoyed our last dinner at the Murphys Hotel on Saturday evening. Dinner was served by candlelight just as it must have been in the 1850's. It was not by choice. The region experienced a rare power outage that put us in the dark for about twenty minutes. These little surprises make the Ironstone tour that much more interesting.
